I can’t do this anymore
I’ve come to realize that there are feelings in my heart that I can’t express when I’m without you. And being so far away is too hard. I have fields to plow, here, and I can’t when you’re gone. I’m ending our relationship. I’m getting a new tractor. The attractortion is gone, if it was ever there. I’m moving on, and you should too. At 4 MPH. Its for the best

The key to political power is to make yourself voice for the masses. In different days the masses have had different qualities1. In my life I have variously lived under a mobocracy and an obnoxcracy. A mobocracy is rule by the angriest. An obnoxcracy is rule by the loudest. I can imagine different, and better government systems, in my mind, where the smartest get the loudest voices, or the most disciplined, or the meekest, but currently democracy flows through propaganda organs which means whoever is loudest wins. The majority of people don’t even vote.
It is possible to inspire people through passion, vision, creativity, love, and virtue, but in practice it is a lot cheaper to just make people mad. So really, democracy is a rage machine2. The system is designed top to bottom by accident or malice to make the maximum number of people mad for Cause A or Cause B. I’m not saying Cause A and Cause B aren’t worth getting mad over. If its truly worth getting mad over that’s even better for the system. So manufacturing injustice is very useful to it. But in very specific degrees, because if you leave a margin for error then the other side gets to profit from the anger energy too, by saying “it was actually justice, not injustice, and by seeking to create justice you are actually creating injustice.” it is very tricky and very clever and the culture just does it naturally. Its as beautiful as honeycomb. This is how cultural fault lines get picked. Thankfully, if there’s insufficient injustice around an issue, it can be easily manufactured with a really big megaphone. So don’t worry there’s a huge safety net.
Everybody wants a bad guy. Humans are attuned to justice and people like seeing people get their just desserts. In fact, people crave it. People will go out of their way to research an issue to find out that it was unjust, specifically so they can get mad about it and demand justice. Not the other way around. Every time you have read a single screenshot of reddit, this has been the mechanism at work. If you’re aware of it, you can give yourself an acquired distaste for it, which is how I survived high school. Again this isn’t because violence or injustice or whatever is good. It can. But the error margin is high. And people are too distanced from not just the issue but any real issues in their own lives to really have an intuitive feel for it. People don’t even have to dirty their hands by killing their own food anymore. So we’re back to the gladiator arena hoping a bad guy gets bloodied.
You can’t have a good guy get bloodied. If you see a good guy get bloodied then you feel bad. To participate in online spectacle you need bad guys, especially if you’re a participant who dunks on people on twitter, like myself. If you cludge someone with a rock you would feel like a bad person. You have to demonize people you are in conflict with to justify yourself. Interreligion conflict is like this. Interracial conflict is like this. We live in a world structured to remove shades of grey. Counterintuitively, this has led for a huge swath of the population to be justice starved. Junk food isn’t filling.
We have a term we call “normie sadism.” People who by all appearances have normal lives with boring hobbies hoping bad guys get raped in prison, murdered by mobs of blacks, bombed by russia/ukraine, there is an entire genre for it. These wishes are horrible. But people have bloodlust and it needs an acceptable target. They would not have these wishes if bad people were simply executed. They could relax. We live in a justice desert. We know the justice system doesn’t work. So people pray for justice from prison rapists. You should be praying for justice to God. And if you’re Christian you should also be praying for mercy.
Most shows have the bad guys be Nazis. Or the KKK. Or Donald Trump. Larger than life stand ins for “acceptable target of hatred.” If you’re going to have an acceptable target for hatred you need to pick more carefully than that. Because hatred is potent stuff. Joseph Smith taught that God must be just, or men could not have faith in him. Because an unjust God could misjudge, or could not recompense the saints, or could commit atrocity, or play favorites. It is good for men to want justice. It is not good for men to judge unrighteous judgement. Temperance is the solution. Seeking to understand first. It won’t win the mob vote, but it might save your soul.

yo fellas how we feeling about the yo fellas, I’m thinking they go right here but maybe the yos go up more, but you gotta be experimental with it, innovation is the bleeding heart of science. “Yo fellas. I’m bleeding, from my heart” How about that. It has a good ring to it. Its true too. I’ve checked.
But you do want to satisfy the traditionalists. Yo, traditionalists and fellas. Inclusive. Some will accuse us of pandering, but we can always pander to the accusers too. “Yo, accusers. I’m bleeding. From my heart.” Act natural. They’ve already done their worst.
